How To Make Yourself A More Attractive Job Candidate

You might not think it, but applying for a job is a bit like dating. You’ll only be a hit with some people and not with everyone. The thing is, you might have your heart set on a job with a particular company. How can you make them like you enough to hire you?

The good news is there are plenty of ways to make yourself an attractive option to employers. Unfortunately, few people know of the ways to achieve that goal. As a result, they have to end up settling for mediocre roles just to pay the bills.

In today’s blog post, I will share with you the tips you need to know. Check them out below:

Make sure your skills are relevant and up-to-date

Before you apply for any jobs, the first thing you need to do is brush up on your skills set. You will no doubt have a good idea of the types of roles you want to apply for. Do your current skills match up to the needs of those jobs? If they don’t, it’s time to bring them up-to-date.

I recommend attending training courses that give you some kind of certification. For example, the courses offered at https://www.trainingconnection.com/ do so. That way, you have proof to show to your prospective employers.

Training is a worthwhile investment in your future. Especially as it gives you a fighting chance of getting the job you want!

Tailor your resume to each role you apply for

Once you’ve brought your skills up-to-date, the next task is to work on your resume. I’ve never been an advocate of sending out a carbon copy of your resume to several companies. Why? Because employers can smell that a mile off!

They will only take notice of candidates who offer a resume that relates to the role. Sure, it’ll take you more time to apply for each job. But, it means that you can emphasize your skills and how they meet the needs of the employer.

Create a LinkedIn profile

These days, today’s employers tend to look at a candidate’s LinkedIn profile. They want to see what kind of people apply for the jobs they offer. They also want to know if any professionals endorse or recommend them.

It’s easy and free to set up a LinkedIn profile. All you have to do is head over to https://www.linkedin.com. Be sure to make your profile as professional as possible. Remember that this isn’t a Facebook or Twitter profile. The idea behind LinkedIn is to help you boast your professional skills and expertise!

Offer a basic disclosure to potential employers

Employers want to know that you don’t have anything (illegal) to hide from them. And, of course, they want to ensure you have a legal right to work in the country!

Providing them a basic disclosure check is one way to increase your chances of getting hired. It proves to the employer that you have nothing to hide. And that hiring you will be the best decision they can make.

Good luck!
